US: Man ‘drove into pedestrian, tried to steal ambulance’

Police say a man attempted to steal an ambulance and assaulted an emergency worker shortly after hitting a pedestrian with his car.

Albert Jermaine White, 19, of Morgan Trail, Virginia Beach is charged with abduction, felony assault of an Emergency Medical Technician, simple assault, attempted grand larceny, and possession of marijuana.

More charges are pending against White. He is being held without bond in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center, police spokesman Adam Bernstein said.

He said on Monday at 4:40 p.m., police and emergency medical service personnel were called to the scene of a hit-and-run crash. Callers said a vehicle struck a pedestrian and fled the scene on Old Donation Parkway.
