A paramedic stripped to his underwear at Tesco in Addlestone – after the cashier refused to sell him alcohol
The ambulance man was shopping in Tesco in Station Road, Addlestone, late on Tuesday when the cashier would not let him buy alcohol because he was in uniform.
In protest, he left the store, took his uniform off, and walked back in wearing just a thong and a pair of socks.
Rachael Monkton, 27, who was shopping at the time and saw the whole thing unfold, said: “He was shopping with a woman when the girl on the checkout said she couldn’t let him buy alcohol.
“He got a bit agitated, and the manager was called over but she took the side of the member of staff. So he stormed out, leaving his wife at the tills, and when he came back in he was just in his underwear.
“People were staring at him and laughing – I couldn’t believe my eyes. Normally people would pay to see a man in uniform strip, but we got a free show that night.”

No mention of the fact that Tesco apparently refused to sell the alcohol to this gentleman’s partner as a compromise – she is nothing to do with the Ambulance Service and that could have been a way to settle the situation. This may have lead to his frustration and subsequent behaviour. Did Tesco think that he was going to sit in an ambulance between calls and savour one of their finest wines? I hope that his employers will take his length of service into consideration and other factors that are too personal to mention here but they know what I am referrng too. It might be time for supporters to do a bit of “Al Fresco” shopping at Tescos in order to show a bit of solidarity. Imagine if every Paramedic and Ambulance Technician, from the nearby stations did this………

Totally agree John (that’s probably a first!). I’ve been looking into this and it would appear that Tesco has got it wrong.
Section 178 of the Licensing Act 1964 only refers to ‘police constables’ on duty.
OK, it may be Tesco policy but if that’s the case they need to be consistant – I bought a lovely Australian red called ‘The Full Fifteen’, in uniform, on my way home just the other day.
If you want to organise an Al Fresco shopping trip, I’ll get me kecks off for you!!
