Unfortunately the system that we are currently working too involves the use of volunteers, much the same as both the Police and Fire. So maybe their times should be included in the reports (as I am sure that this also happens for the other services).

With regard to "should we be using volunteers", personally I don't think we should be. If we have identified a shortfall and can not meet response time targets, maybe we should be employing more resources - just a though!

ORCON - thats a whole different kettle of fish - since when has arriving at an address in 7min 59sec saved anyones life? Surely they are saved by the treatment given at the scene and subsequant treatment at A&E. Maybe clinical audits on correct treatment given and patient outcomes should be looked at instead - not an original idea I know, but worth saying none the less.

It's unfair to say that the volunteers are untrained, they have at least AED and oxygen therapy training.

What do you think about 'community responders'?

Should their deployment be included in the meaningless ORCON statistics?

Seeing as there is no shortage of people wanting to work for the service, should ambulance trusts be using them at all?
