US: Assaulting Paramedic Now Felony

It is a very dangerous job without much back-up, and last year in Oklahoma 14 paramedics were assaulted in the line of duty. Lawmakers are hoping to change all that with a new measure.
James Postoak decided to become a paramedic 13 years ago today.
“I was living in Oklahoma City at the time of the bombing, and saw some pretty incredible things that day,” said Postoak.
It is a job he loves.
“It’s never the same thing. Every day is different,” expressed Postoak.
It is not always easy.
“I’ve had people put their cigarette out on me, I’ve been hit, spit on, we get spit on all the time,” said Postoak.
Sometimes things get violent. A paramedic in Oklahoma City was viciously assaulted, and it happens more than most think. But now there is a new law to punish those that get in the way.
“I think the law is long overdue. It turns incidents like those into a felony, where before it was a misdemeanor. Now assaulting an EMT is going to be a felony,” explained Postoak.
