Cumbrian paramedic retiring after 40 years helping to save lives

A paramedic, who has spent more than 40 years saving lives, is hanging up his uniform at the end of the month.

Eric Martin, of Queen Street, Workington, joined the ambulance service under the-then Cumberland County Council in 1968, when ambulances carried only basic first aid equipment.

During his time in the ambulance service, the 63-year-old has worked as a driving attendant, station officer at Maryport and a training instructor.
