A rap song and video about the changes to the NHS is proving a massive hit on the internet – and now there’s a campaign to get the track to No1 in the UK charts.Loughborough binman Sean Donnelly, who is also known as MC Nxt Gen, penned the track, Andrew Lansley Rap in response to the government’s planned changes to the NHS.
The recording, which was funded by UNISON, has so far had almost 250,000 hits and includes the lyrics: “The NHS is not for sale!”
UNISON General secretary Dave Prentis said: “When Sean came to UNISON with his idea for a rap against the Health and Social Care Bill, we jumped at the chance. “We want to use every means available to let people know about the damage it will cause to the NHS, and social media is how young people communicate today. “Never in our wildest dreams did we think it would take off so hugely.”

Mr Prentis added: “There is a huge amount of doubt creeping in from all political parties about whether this Bill should go ahead. Lansley, however, seems determined to ignore widespread criticism.
“If the Bill goes through it will be a prescription for privatisation and the destruction of the NHS.”

How do I agree with you? Let me count the ways. Many moons ago I worked in the Ministry of Health and there were some doctors there who were old enough to remember the start of the NHS. Before it began they were pretty much against it, but soon changed their tune. They had to bite their tongues to stop themselves asking the same question over and over again as people were coming in with horrendous long-term problems. Of course the answer to ” Why the hell didn’t you come in before?” was ALWAYS the same……
