The East of England Ambulance Service said a collision involving a van happened at about 10:25 GMT in Main Road, Danbury.

The patient, aged in his 70s, was cut free and moved into another ambulance. His condition is stable.

Three ambulance staff suffered minor injuries. The van driver was unhurt.

The ambulance was taking the patient from Great Totham, near Maldon, to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.

Paramedics retrieved the wheel from a garden, using it to prop up the stricken vehicle to prevent it toppling over. Renee’s son Paul Brady, who had been following the ambulance in his car, said: “There was a massive bang and the ambulance dropped to the left.

The wheel came bouncing towards me, went over a car and came to rest in a garden.“The ambulance was screeching and at an angle. It was obviously on its axle. “The crew were as gob-smacked as me. The door was opened gingerly and my mum was on the trolley. “She didn’t know what the hell was going on. I felt so sorry for her. She was shaking.”

On Monday, three vehicles were involved in a collision around 5:45 p.m. at Corydon Avenue and Stafford Street.

Paramedic Cory Wilson was on his way back to the station from another call when he came upon the collision and stopped to help.

Moments later, he would be hit himself.

“I just heard the noise and the truck hit me and I stumbled a few steps and wondered what was going on,” said Wilson.

He was helping a woman inside a pickup truck when he was hit by another truck.

Michael James Colley, 33, from Calne, had come off his Suzuki GSXR in the early hours of Sunday morning as he rode along the A4 at Black Dog Hill.

Two passers-by stopped their car to help and found him unconscious but breathing and phoned for an ambulance.

Shortly afterwards an ambulance transporting a patient to Bath’s Royal United Hospital drove towards them and collided with Mr Colley, who was still lying in the road.

A Great Western Ambulance Service spokesman said the ambulance was “travelling under emergency conditions – with blue lights but no sirens and not at speed”.

The ambulance was rushing to an emergency with its lights and siren on when it was involved in a collision with a blue Mercedes SL500 on the B530 near Ampthill on Thursday (July 9).

The crash happened at around 1.30pm at the junction of Finchley Road and Frognal Lane. It is understood the police car was travelling southbound on the Finchley Road and the ambulance was travelling eastbound towards Frognal when the crash happened.

Both cars were severely damaged in the collision and the roof had to be cut off the police car to free the driver.
